Reflection 3

Questions:How are we going to insert the lights into the shirt ?
Where can we get the luminous chemical?
Where can we get solar cells?
We may need to use a method to reduce the heat produced by the lights and the solar panel .
How are we going to take out the lights when the T-shirt needs to be washed ?
Can we use waterproof light bulbs to design the shirt ?
The lights may have to have a protective covering as the lights may break .
How are we going to make to create the circuitry for the shirt ?
Where can we gather the materials for the solar panel?

Other:Inserting the lights into the shirt may be difficult
Christmas tree lights should be used to reduce the bulk of the shirt .
The solar panel should be detachable to prevent the wearer from experiencing excess heat .
The light bulbs must be taken out to prevent being damaged when washing the shirt .
I agree with Jevon's idea to use chemiluminiscence to create the shirt if the solar power method fails .

Chemiluminiscence

We can use christmas lights for the glow-in-the-dark T-shirt. One important question is how are we going to install the lights into the T-shirt? How many light bulbs do we need?

And the lights must be easily detached from the shirt, so that the shirt is washable.

Jonjoe - Reflection 2

What do I already know about the topic?
-I know that we are able to use chemiluminiscence as the glow-in-the-dark source for our shirt, as Jonathan had mentioned earlier in his post. Good point is that it would make the our shirt environmentally- friendly, which is our team goal. While as for the shirt, it could be bought at many locations.

What are the questions I want to ask about the topic?
-Bad point about the chemical chemiluminiscence is that it is hard for us students to find any of it for sale. Where can we purchase or create it? Its is essential to our product. And as for the shirt's construction ( putting everything together), how can we do it?

What are the subjects/skills I can make use of?
We could make use of chemistry, physics, maths and art.

Where can I go and find information for the project?
-Libraries, Internet, teachers, shops.

What do I prepare to tell others about our project?
-That our shirt is eco-friendly, durable and really attractive!!=D

Answers for IPW Worksheet 2

Q1:The topic for our group is:Designing a green glow-in-the-dark T-shirt
Q2:We already know that chemiluminiscence is what is necessary for the T-shirt to be successful
Q3:I wish to know how to create or purchase the glow-in-the-dark chemical for this project .
Q4:The skills we can make use of are sciences(Biology,Chemistry,Physics)
Q5:The information sources for our group are the web as well as science encyclopedias
Q6:We wish to tell the other groups that this glow-in-the-dark T-shirt has the advantage of being enviro-friendly and long-lasting .

Jonathan Pang(18)-Reflection 1

Reflection 1:What I know-During this project,we plan to make a shirt with the theory of solar power . For solar power we will need a solar battery or cells . Then place it in a sunny area . The solar energy will then be transfered to the shirt . I think that the photovoltaic cells should be black to absorb sufficient energy . The glow-in-the-dark shirt should use the method of chemiluminescence to be luminous . This is the most suitable method as other methods of making objects luminous are not related to solar energy . Some, however are unsafe for usage . I wish to find out whether this plan will work as there will be difficulty purchasing solar cells . Another difficulty lies in designing such a shirt . Thirdly, the installation of the energy source and the light will be hard . The next learning issue is the time to have meetings as we have plenty of projects to handle . Here are my plans to solve such difficulties . One,Plan a timetable . Two,create designs beforehand . Lastly, to do all worksheets whenever we have the time .

Jonjoe - Reflection 1

We have not officially decided on our project item yet as we did not have time to meet up and discuss about it. But we have narrowed down our choices to a few innovative ones that helps the environment, and recycles Earth's resources. Our Team goal is to produce an eco-friendly item due to Earth's current global crisis, the decreasing of earth resources at a massive rate. We would schedule more meet-ups in the future to discuss and work on our project.

To make our project item the most effective possible, I will play my part and research thoroughly for the main cause of pollution and apply what I have learnt on our project.

Besides this, we could help to save our resources by doing the small things that could contribute daily, like dumping plastic, paper and others by placing them in their respective recycle bins. We could also help by using less paper and electricity. If we give it our best, we could save our dear Mother Earth!!

GRACE reflection:-Jevon Tan(17)

The hole in the ozone layer has made a deep impact in our lives. This hole led to the change in climate and it is all because of us. We pollute the environment we live in. Little did we realised that this have drastic consequences which include upsetting the balance of nature and eco systems in the world. The earth is much warmer and as a result, ice caps are melting and water levels are rising. The rising levels of water will cause many cities to be submerged especially the low lying ones.
We must take an initiative and try our best to conserve as much as we can. This is why my group and i think that the best way to conserve is to use recycled materials to create a t-shirt. We have also thought of using solar energy to store energy so that this t-shirt will be able to glow in the dark.
I can play a part in helping to make sure that this world will a better place to live in. Small steps like disposing rubbish in the right places and conserving energy, can lead to a big difference. I can also be mindful of the consumption of paper i use. Reducing, reusing and recycling is a good way to start saving the earth.
I really hope to know other ways to help to save Mother Earth!

Reflection (Kee Wen Jie) (20)

I know that global warming is a very harmful thing to the world. It heats up the world and threatens humanity. Therefore, we must take action to help save the world. By recycling things, we can help save the world's need to burn things up to gases. I think that creating a T-shirt made of recycled materials is a good start to help save the world. By doing little things like sending some of your recyclable rubbish to the recycling bin is a fresh start. I also think that we, as the creator of this disaster, should be taking responsible for what we did to Mother Nature. I want to find out what else we can do to help save the world and also to cut down on the rubbish. I also want to find out what had caused most of this disaster and try to help the situation. I would nowadays try to throw my plastic bottles into the recycling bin below my flat which i did not do until now. I would also cut down on electricity usage, like turning out appliances that is not in use. By doing those small little things, I would help and also encourage my neighbours to do so too.

What we plan to do

What the 4 of us plan to do for this IPW project is to design a glow-in-the-dark shirt which%20 does not use any chemicals with the theory of solar power. Our names are Jevon Tan,Jonathan Pang,Jonjoe Fong & Kee Wen Jie .
